Call to work unitedly to serve countrySpeakers at the Eid reunion of Chittagong Diabetic Association Lifetime Members Forum in the port city on Sunday urged all to work united to serve the country and nation. They said any sort of division was sure to hamper development and positive activities. The reunion was held at Institution of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB), Chittagong centre auditorium. The speakers also emphasised bringing the young leadership in the front line and vowed to make the association an affective organisation. Concern over coaching centres in residential area
Leaders of OR Nizam Road Residential Area Welfare Association at a meeting on Friday expressed concern over mushrooming growth of coaching centres in the posh residential area. They said young learners of the coaching centres gossip in groups on the lanes and by-lanes and hinder movement of the residents and vehicles, resulting in altercation as well as scuffles very often. Incidents like harassment of the female residents also take place that leaves a very negative impact on the children and adolescents and disturbs peaceful environment in the residential area, they observed. They decided to stop running such coaching centres in the residential area and shut down Gates No 2, 4 and 7 by 11:00pm and the main gate of the society by 1:00am. Presided over by Association President MM Rahman, Chittagong City Corporation Bagmonirum Ward Councillor Mohammad Giasuddin and Officer-in-Charge (OC) Udayan Barua of Panchlaish Police Station assured the association leaders of all out support and cooperation in this regard. Freedom fighters at a view exchange meeting in the port city on Monday urged the authorities concerned to ensure all the state facilities announced by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for them. They also urged to ensure medication facilities for the freedom fighters and their burial with the state honour. Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Chittagong Metropolitan Unit, North and South district commands jointly organised the meeting at Darul Fazal Market office. The Sangsad Central Command Council Member Secretary Emdad Hossain Matin was the chief guest at the meeting with the Chittagong Metropolitan Unit Command Convener Fahim Uddin in the chair. Concern Services for Disabled (CSD), a non-government organisation working for the people with disabilities, observed “The International Day for the Persons with Disabilities” in the port city on Thursday. On the occasion, a discussion was organised at the CSD Office at Fateyabad in the district. Chittagong University (CU) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Abu Yusuf was the chief guest at the meeting with the CSD Chief Adviser Prof Sayestha Khan in the chair. CDS advisers Pranab Kumar Saha, Prof Shishir Barua and Mohammad Shahjahan were the special guests while CSD General Secretary Biswajit Gupta and Member Rajib Chowdhury spoke at the meeting. Later, wheel chairs, crutches and blankets were distributed among 60 persons with disabilities. Janata Bank launches one stop service
One stop service was opened at Terri Bazar branch of Janata Bank Limited in the port city on Sunday. Janata Bank Chittagong Regional Office Deputy General Manager Abu Naser Chowdhury inaugurated the service along with live operation in computer as the chief guest with the branch Manager Mohammad Abu Syed in the chair. Abu Naser in his speech hoped that the customers would be able to do banking transaction within a short time following introducing the one stop service. Putting up different service schemes of the bank he urged the bank officials to try to increase the deposits alongwith the remittance trade. Jubilee Road branch Manager Dolon Kanti Dhar, customers Osman Gani and Moktar Ahmed Chowdhury were present at the ceremony.
