'Plant tree side by side education'The speakers at a tree plantation programme urged the students to plant trees side by side acquiring knowledge to create a better environment. Lions Club of Chittagong City organised the programme followed by a discussion meeting at the club-run Hafez Mobarak Ali Shah Primary School at Halishahar in the city on Monday. Newly elected Lions Club District Governor Lion Shah M Hasan MJF was the chief guest at the function with City Lions Club President Lion Dilshad Ahmed in the chair. Bangladesh Institute of Planners (BIP) Chittagong chapter launched its journey on Tuesday with a pledge to help proper urbanisation in the port city. Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Abdus Salam was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony with BIP Chittagong chapter Chairman Engineer-Planner M Ali Ashraf in the chair. BIP President Prof Dr Sarwar Jahan, also the head of Town and Regional Planning Department of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet), and General Sectary Prof Dr AKM Abul Kalam, also the head of Town and Regional Planning Department of Jahangirnagar University, were special guests at the ceremony moderated by BIP Chittagong chapter General Secretary and CDA Town Planner Abu Issa Ansary. Salam in his speech said there is no scope to go for any development defying the plan to build Chittagong a liveable and planned city. He emphasised coordinated work by CDA and other development partners like Chittagong City Corporation (CCC), Chittagong Wasa and Bangladesh Railway. Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury here on Monday emphasised holding more seminar and symposium on medical science with Indian specialists to enrich medical sector in Chittagong. He was addressing as the chief guest a seminar titled “Recent development in medical science” at Theatre Institute Chittagong (TIC) where a team of Indian specialists also participated. He said physicians can easily reach the heart of the people through their service that can not be compared with money. Chittagong University Teachers' Association (Cuta) organised a condolence meeting here on Monday in memory of Prof Dr Mosharraf Hossain of CU Social Studies Department and Prof Alauddin Al Azad, a former teacher of CU Bangla Department. A six-day training workshop on “IT Essentials” began here in the port city on Monday. Chittagong City Corporation (CCC)-run Premier University CISCO Academy organised the training for the computer instructors of the CCC-run schools and colleges at the university auditorium. The university Board of Governors Chairman and CCC Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony with Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Anupam Sen in the chair. Speakers emphasised the need for computer literacy for the school and college students to materialise the dream of “Digital Bangladesh.” Lokesh Mehra, area manager (SAARC) CISCO local Academy, briefed about the course as special guest while the academy Officer Jagval Joytinananda spoke on “Digital Bangladesh and Future Networking.” A total of 28 instructors from 20 schools and colleges participated in the first-phase of the training. They will teach the students of their respective schools and colleges later.
