Man 'posing as woman' on Facebook held for deceiving people, misappropriating money

Members of Rapid Action Battalion have arrested a person yesterday evening on charges of deceiving people on social media site Facebook by opening fake accounts of woman and misappropriating money from them.

The accused Mashuk Mia (28) was arrested from Monohordi Municipality Bazar in Narsingdi last evening, said a Rab-4 press release.

The release said Mashuk opened fake accounts of woman on Facebook with fake name and photo, and used it to send requests to men, including expatriates.

"Then, he tactfully built up relationships with the men and talked with them pretending to be a girl by changing his voice. Later, he took money from them, saying his situation was dire," the release said.

On information, a team of Rab-4 conducted a drive at Monohordi Municipality Bazar in Narsingdi last evening and made the arrest, it stated.

During primary interrogation, the arrestee admitted his involvement in the crime, the Rab release said, adding that a case under the Digital Security Act is underway against him.
