Removing cupboard odour
Engaged in mundane activities of our busy lives we often forget simple things that can escape our eyes. Musty odour inside cabinets is one such thing. It can develop for various reasons. The following tips can help you get rid of unpleasant smells in your cabinets and keep the unpleasant smell at bay.
First, remove everything from your cabinet and start cleaning them. Dry them out in the sun. Shine a flashlight and search for the source. Often, wooden cupboards get damp in humid weather. Waterproofing your cabinet or lining the shelves can be very helpful during such weather conditions. If the cabinet is waterlogged or rotten, it will be best to dispose of it.
Then, let fresh, clean and dry air get in. Placing your cupboard out in the sun will be best, but if that is not possible, switch on the air-conditioner. Also, you can place crumpled newspapers on shelves and take them out once they have soaked the dampness.
Make sure all the clothes are fully dried before putting them inside. Keeping damp clothes, even when washed, can create bad smell inside your wardrobe and even on the fabric. If the odour still prevails, there might be a moisture problem in the room. In that case, the room needs a good ventilation system. Keep your windows open to let in plenty of air. Using air-conditioners can also work.
To get rid of odours, there are plenty of natural techniques. Place a lemon in your closet. It will make the air fresh and also create a nice smell. Vinegar, baking soda or coffee beans can be used to prevent humidity inside. Although it's a bit pricey, vanilla essence is great to make anything smell pleasant.
Musty odours can originate due to humidity, lack of fresh air, growth of mildew, dead bugs or accumulation of dust. These underlying causes for your cupboard smelling bad can also trigger health problems such as asthma, headaches, and nose and throat congestion.
