Planning your wall décor

When it comes to home décor, picking the right colour for walls can become a real challenge. The wall is the first thing we see when we enter a home. A colourful perfectly polished wall can make or break your home décor. In order to truly stand out you need a plan, theme and other accessories that compliment your choice of colour.

Before getting down to business you have to pick a theme. Remember everything else in the room has to be in sync with your theme of choice. For example, vase, clock, cushions and paintings should match your basic decoration theme. Decorate the floor with rugs or carpets with catchy patterns. Revamp your old simple vases with pieces of glasses, confetti balls according to your theme.

Now, you have to make a decision regarding your wall. You have a choice between wallpapers, paintings, stickers, hanging tapestry and upholstery. You can also hang up pictures, posters or paintings. Make sure the décor is a reflection of the inhabitant's personality. For example during major holidays like the Bengali new year you can paint traditional designs to bring out the festive mood in your household. Another bright idea is to use rickshaw paint for your walls. Get ready to really stand out with this wacky idea. A simple rule of thumb is to feature bright colours for only one wall while keeping the others light. This helps the décor to pop.

We move on to the lighting of the room. The lighting helps the colour of your walls and the paintings or pictures to pop. China lights, ceiling lights and pendant lights look more attractive than conventional tube-lights. Decorate rooms with decorative lamps and colorful candles. Set up some stylish lamps beside your bedside or worktable. If you just have a plain lamp shades it doesn't mean you have waste money on a new one. Colour and decorate it according to your taste with common household stationaries.
