DIY ideas for wall décor

While looking for expensive decorative pieces for the walls, we often forget to utilise our own sense of art to embellish our homes. As a result, the rooms look dull and walls stay blank. The appearance of your wall can dramatically change the look of your room. With these easy to execute ideas, banish the blank walls and introduce new decorations for them.

SHOE BOX DISPLAY CASES
Paint the inside of the box with a light colour and the exterior with a sparkly shade such as gold or silver. Choose a lightweight display item to hang in the shoe case, because it will not be able to support heavy weights. The cases can also be lined with fun wrapping papers inside to make it look craftier. Add more stability to the structure, by coating the entire box with glue.

INSTAGRAM PHOTO CANVAS
At first, lay out all your printed photos. Take a rectangular shaped piece Styrofoam that will fit all the desired photos you want to display. Draw a chart on the Styrofoam and decide where each photo would be placed. Then glue each photo accordingly. To cover exposed sides of the Styrofoam, glue or tape a pretty fabric on it and display.

DECORATIVE MIRRORS
Choose cute and tiny ornamental mirrors against a lightly coloured background and hang them in the desired pattern.

SARI CANVAS
Choose an old traditional sari, such as Jamdani or one that has a nice handcraft sewn on it and iron it meticulously to make sure there's no crease left. Wrap it gently around a rectangular Styrofoam. Gently tape the fabric behind and display.

A nicely decorated wall can change the ambience of a room. Take a day or two from work, invite some friends over or let the kids help you out. Let your creative self take control and you will be amazed at the results and joy they bring.
