230 flights cancelled since Feb 28 at Dhaka airport following Middle East airspace restriction
A total of 230 flights were cancelled at the Dhaka airport since February 28, following the closure of airspace by several Middle Eastern countries amid heightened security concerns.
On February 28, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar and Jordan closed their airspace after the security situation escalated in the region, disrupting international flight operations.
At Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, 23 flights were cancelled on February 28, 40 on March 1, 46 on March 2, 39 on March 3, 28 on March 4, and 36 flights were cancelled on March 5.
On March 6 after 12:00am local time, 18 more flights were cancelled.
These included four flights of Kuwait Airways (KU), four of Jazeera Airways (J9), six of Air Arabia (G9) operating to and from Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, and four of Qatar Airways (QR) operating to and from Qatar.
Airport officials said the cancellations stemmed from ongoing airspace restrictions and operational disruptions across the Gulf region.
