Rehabilitate hijras
In some intersections of Dhaka city, hijras harass people by extorting money from them. If anyone refuses to pay, they use slang words and insist on being paid. Sometimes, they go to people's houses to collect money. My sister experienced something similar a few days ago. A couple of hijras showed up at her doorstep demanding a huge amount of money because she had just given birth to a baby boy few months prior. She was alone in the house so she refused to open the door. They threatened her that if she didn't open the door, they would break it open. Finally, my sister ended up paying the amount they asked for.
I urge the government to do something immediately to rehabilitate these people so that they don't have to resort to these types of measures to make a living. Hijras are often looked down upon in our society and treated as outcasts. They must not be made to feel this way.
