Narrowest footpath in the world
The eastside footpath of the Airport Road, from Khilkhet to Kaola, is barely a foot wide. It must be the narrowest footpath in the world. The widely accepted rule in the civilised world is that a footpath must be one-third in width of the road it runs along with. But who cares? In this city, we love to shrink the width of footpaths to widen the road so that the vehicles can move comfortably; though sixty percent of the city dwellers are pedestrians.
Dhaka City can also boast of having the most dilapidated footpath in the world which lies in between Mohakhali and Amtali, and on the same Airport Road on its east side. From time immemorial, this footpath is in this condition. Bangladesh deserves a place in the Guinness Book of Records for having the narrowest and the most dilapidated footpaths in the world!
