“Ironical yet deplorable” (February 17, 2015)
S. M. Iftekhar Ahmed
BNP, perhaps influenced by Jamaat, has become so obsessed about coming to power that it intentionally ignores the plight of the people or its own hardships. They also fail to realise that people will not support their so-called movement because of the way they are carrying it out. So unless BNP leaders change their way of thinking, this crisis will soon have an impact on them even more than on the ordinary citizen.
Monju Huq
BNP-Jamaat have again unnecessarily resorted to destructive activities similar to what they inflicted during 2014 pre-election period. They would have now been in power had they not neglected the election held on 5th January 2014. But their political immaturity together with arrogance caused them to suffer huge loss. When the prospect of ascension to power was in their favour, they committed a blunder by resorting to terrorism, sabotage and violence and now they are doing the same. Probably, driven by the urgency to save the war criminals of Jamaat and to save Khaleda from the punishment of anti-corruption charge, they wanted to overthrow the government by force.
Hate hartals
We're sick and tired of the hartal and bombing business. BNP, hear this loud and clear, your tactics are not going to win you an election, neither now, nor later. If you had not resorted to such low tactics you had a chance, but now, never!
New Generation
It appears from the views expressed by some of our wise readers that hartal, blockade, non-cooperation movement etc. are new concept in Bangladesh and in the past, no such situation took place in the country. As per media reports, many of bomb throwers have been arrested by police during the recent situation but when their IDENTITY was known to the police, they were released. Who're the culprits behind the whole scenario?
