India’s Covid-19 death toll crosses 1-lakh mark
India's coronavirus death count today crossed the grim landmark of one lakh and the infection tally climbed to 64,73,544, reports our New Delhi correspondent, quoting the country's health ministry.
It has now become the third country after the United States and Brazil to record more than one lakh fatalities due to Covid-19.
The US has the highest Covid-19 death toll, with more than 2.1 lakh, followed by Brazil in the second spot with over 1.4 lakh.
The total number of people in India who have recovered from the disease crossed 54 lakh, pushing the recovery rate to 83.84 percent, the ministry data said this morning.
The total coronavirus cases mounted to 64,73,544 with 79,476 new infections being reported in a day, while the death toll climbed to 1,00,842 with the virus claiming 1,069 lives in a span of 24 hours, the data added.
The Covid-19 case fatality rate was recorded at 1.56 percent.
India's coronavirus tally crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30-lakh on August 23 and 60-lakh on September 28.
