Star Online Report

The High Court today asked the government what Covid-19 patients were being prescribed centrally and how the patients were being monitored across the country.

The court also wanted to know the total number of intensive care units (ICU) in the country and how those were being distributed among the patients, including the Covid-19 ones.

The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim asked the authorities concerned of the government to place the information before it by Wednesday.

The bench passed the order during a virtual hearing on a writ petition filed by deputy registrar of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Dr Sheikh Abdullah Al Mamun seeking necessary directives on this issue.

He recently submitted the writ petition to the HC requesting it to direct the government to acquire the ICU beds of private hospitals and to form a central bed bureau in order to provide treatment to Covid-19 patients properly.

Advocate Yadia Zaman appeared for the writ petitioner while Additional Attorney General Murad Reza represented the state.
