Child admitted with measles symptoms dies at Tangail hospital
An eight-month-old, admitted with symptoms of measles, died while undergoing treatment at the 250-Bed General Hospital in Tangail today.
The deceased is Saifal, son of Sohel Rana of Hatila village in Sadar upazila.
The hospital’s Deputy Director, Khandaker Sadiqur Rahman, said, the infant, a suspected measles patient, was admitted to the hospital around 4:00pm on Wednesday. He died at around 2:00am today (Thursday) while undergoing treatment.
The number of children infected with measles at the hospital has been increasing over the past few days.
The hospital authorities said that so far, 13 children have been undergoing treatment for measles at the hospital
Khandaker Sadiqur also said that due to the rise in the number of children infected with measles in recent days, a separate ward was needed.
Accordingly, the hospital’s diarrhoea ward was prepared for measles treatment. Measles patients were transferred to this ward today.
It is feared that the number of children infected with measles may increase further, he added.
