Primary, secondary schools will open when Covid-19 situation is under control: PM
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina told the parliament today that primary and secondary educational institutions will open when the Covid-19 situation is under control.
She made the remark while participating in a general discussion on the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2021-22.
Mentioning that students are hit worst due to the closure of educational institutions, the Prime Minister said that vaccination of college and university students has already started.
"When these activities are completed, we will be able to open colleges and universities. Primary and secondary schools and madrasas will reopen when the Covid-19 situation comes under control," Hasina said.
"We want everyone -- from school to higher education -- to get vaccinated so that we can reopen the educational institutions sooner. We will take the required measures," said the Prime Minister.
Regarding the continuity of education, the Prime Minister also said, "We have taken steps to ensure the continuity of the curriculum from the very beginning of the pandemic." Distant learning programmes like "My home is my school", "learning from home" are still being aired through Sangsad Television. Educational activities continued through Bangladesh Betar, community radio, and online. This has made it possible to keep about four crore students involved in educational activities for the past year, added the premier.
