12 die in Covid units of 3 Khulna hospitals in 24 hours

Twelve people died while being treated at the Covid units of three Khulna hospitals in the last 24 hours till 8am today.

The three hospitals are Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH), Gazi Medical College Hospital and Khulna General Hospital.

Dr Suhas Ranjan Halder, resident medical officer and spokesperson of the Covid unit at KMCH, said that five patients at the unit died in 24 hours till this morning. Of them, four were Covid-19 positive and one had symptoms.

Till 8am, 183 people were admitted to the unit. Of them, 100 are undergoing treatment in red zone, 43 in yellow zone, 20 are in high-dependency unit (HDU) and 20 are at intensive care unit (ICU).

Gazi Medical College Hospital owner Gazi Mizanur Rahman said, four patients died while undergoing treatment at the hospital's Covid unit during 24 hours till 8am. They were all Covid-19 positive.

Besides, ninety-two patients were receiving treatment during this time at the hospital's Covid unit. Of them, six were in ICU and eight in HDU, he added.

On the other hand, three Covid-19 patients died while being treated at the Covid unit of Khulna General Hospital, said the unit's spokesperson Dr Kazi Abu Rashed. Sixty-six were taking treatment at the unit till this morning, he added.

Khulna Medical College Principal Dr Mehedi Newaz said, last night 565 people were tested for coronavirus infection and 220 of them were found positive.

Of the 220 infected, 196 are from Khulna, 12 from Bagerhat, five from Jashore, three from Satkhira, one from Narail, two from Pirojpur, one from Jhenidah and another is from Dhaka.

The current positivity rate stood at 39.12 percent, said Dr Mehedi Newaz.
