Dead dolphin found in Halda River

Locals recovered a dead Gangetic dolphin (Platanista gangetica) from Halda River in Hathazari upazila of Chattogram yesterday evening.

The dolphin was found floating in the river at Azimer Ghat area in the upazila. It bore several wounds inflicted by a metallic object, reports our correspondent quoting Professor Dr Manzoorul Kibria, an eminent researcher on Halda River.

The wounds may have been caused by propeller of mechanized boats, he said, adding that with this, 23 dolphins have so far been found dead in the river.
