Two Bangladeshi films selected for Nepal festival
Two Bangladeshi short films have been selected for screening at the 9th Nepal International Film Festival, set to take place in Kathmandu from April 2 to 6. The selected films are “The Pair of White Pigeons” by Shahriar Azad and “Memories and Miseries” by Fakhrul Alam.
Speaking about “The Pair of White Pigeons”, director Shahriar Azad said the film centres on a pair of pigeons and is closely tied to his childhood memories. “I grew up in a remote area of Jhikargacha in Jashore district. Through this short film, I have tried to capture various emotions from my childhood. Alongside incidents I witnessed in rural life, the film also reflects village life, nature, and complex inner emotions,” he said. The film stars SK Shahriar and Shaheen Hossain.
“Memories and Miseries” is an experimental film that follows the journey of a soul trapped in a strange state between heaven and earth. The soul revisits two distinct chapters of its life. In one, it is a writer searching for human stories and a language for emotions and experiences; in the other, it is a priest who has witnessed a war-torn time and grown accustomed to hearing people’s suffering, guilt, and confessions. The film stars Sharif Siraj and Khalid Hasan.
