Sony’s four-part Beatles biopic enters production, first looks revealed
Sony’s ambitious four-part biopic on The Beatles has officially moved into production, with the first looks at the actors portraying the legendary band now revealed in an unconventional way.
To mark the moment, the studio distributed four exclusive postcards—each featuring one of the lead actors in character—across the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts. Students were invited to hunt for the postcards, a nod to the band’s Liverpool roots. The initiative was shared on the institute’s official Instagram page, generating buzz among fans and film students alike.
Directed by Sam Mendes, the project titled “The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event” will see Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr. Each of the four films will focus on a different member of the Fab Four, offering individual perspectives on their lives and creative journeys.
The supporting cast includes Saoirse Ronan as Linda McCartney, James Norton as manager Brian Epstein, Anna Sawai as Yoko Ono, Aimee Lou Wood as Pattie Boyd, Harry Lloyd as producer George Martin, and Mia McKenna-Bruce as Maureen Starkey.
The project was first announced at CinemaCon last year, where Mendes appeared alongside the four leads. Speaking at the event, the filmmaker said the decision to make four films—rather than one—was about understanding each Beatle more deeply. The films are being produced by Neal Street Productions, with screenplays by Jez Butterworth, Peter Straughan and Jack Thorne.
Set for a simultaneous theatrical rollout in April 2028, the Beatles films arrive amid Hollywood’s continued interest in music biopics. Sony film chief Tom Rothman has described the venture as unprecedented, noting that the scale of the idea demands an equally bold release strategy.
