Runa Khan fronts psychological thriller ‘Roktochaya’
Actor Runa Khan, whose career spans more than two decades, is set to appear in the role of a police officer for the first time in her upcoming short film "Roktochaya", directed by Ali Zulfikar Zahedi. Shooting for the project has recently been completed.
The film has been produced with an eye on the Cannes Film Festival, the director said, adding that the story addresses the discrimination women continue to face in contemporary society. "The narrative revolves around the persistent inequality faced by women. We wanted to highlight women's strength and intelligence. For that, I needed a powerful and accomplished performer, which is why I chose Runa Khan. I have been deeply impressed by her acting ability and sense of restraint," Zahedi said.
Describing the film, Runa Khan said "Roktochaya" is a female-centric psychological thriller. She plays Shivana Nasrin, a principled and outspoken police officer who remains steadfast in her sense of duty and integrity. "This is my first experience playing a police officer. The story shows a rise in crime in the city, and Shivana is given the responsibility of controlling the situation," she said.
Runa Khan also noted that the film reflects the social reality in which women in positions of authority are frequently questioned for their competence. "The same pattern appears in the story. Alongside that, the film highlights various inconsistencies and contradictions within our society," she added.
Produced by Adrian Productions, "Roktochaya" also stars Aman Reza, Rafah Nanjeba Torsa, Nokshi Tabassum and Affan Mitul, among others.
Meanwhile, Runa Khan has also signed on for Zulfikar Zahedi's upcoming feature-length film "Chalachitra: The Cinema". The film explores the lives of people associated with the world of cinema, with Runa Khan set to appear in the role of a leading actress.
