‘Respect women, and society will change’: Stars share Women’s Day thoughts
International Women’s Day is being observed today. The day has been celebrated for many years, when women speak about their rights and independence. In that spirit, four actresses shared their thoughts on Women’s Day with The Daily Star.

On Women’s Day, I extend my greetings to all women and send my love to them. If we learn to respect women, nothing more is needed. Respect and love are what women truly need. If these exist, there will be no discrimination against women. Even today, we often see various negative news reports about women in the newspapers. I hope such things no longer happen. Every home has a woman — a woman is a mother, a sister, a wife. That woman deserves proper respect. Women’s rights must be protected; only then will the significance of Women’s Day truly grow.

I pay tribute and respect to those who have worked for women’s liberation and independence throughout history, as they dedicated their efforts for women. Whether in the present or the future, there is always a sense of uncertainty surrounding women, but it should not be so. Women should move forward and achieve even greater success in every field. Freedom and rights are essential for women. Financial stability is important for both men and women; however, it is especially crucial for women. Every woman should become self-reliant and feel safe. These are the thoughts that come to mind on Women’s Day.

One day of a year is dedicated to celebrating Women’s Day, and I see this positively. Let there be a day for women. On this day, discussions should take place about women’s rights, respect, and many other issues, raising awareness among people. However, I believe it should not be limited to just one day — every day should be Women’s Day. Women should be treated with respect and love. A woman is not only a wife or a sister; she is also a mother. A country, or even the entire world, becomes beautiful not because of men alone or women alone, but because of both together. Some women feel they cannot do everything, but that is not right. One of the greatest powers of a woman is becoming a mother and giving birth — something no one else can do.

It is surprising that even in 2026 we still have to talk about women’s rights and Women’s Day. If we truly respect women, do not harbour prejudice against them, value them, and love them, then such discussions would hardly be necessary. The first step is for every man to be conscious and view women with respect; then society and the country will become far more beautiful. This education should begin within the family. There should be no discrimination against women. Another question is: what is the point of celebrating Women’s Day for just one day? Every day should belong to women. After all, a woman is a mother.
