‘Portraying Bangabandhu is my biggest achievement’
Ahmed Rubel is an extraordinary actor, who has carved his place with his versatile acting and outstanding characterisation. He entered into the world of acting with 'Dhaka Theatre' and then slowly paved his way into television serials and movies. In a candid interview with The Daily Star, Ahmed Rubel opens up about the release of his upcoming movies "Chironjib Mujib" on December 31 and "Deshantor" next year.
You will be playing the role of Bangabandhu in "Chironjib Mujib", based on the unfinished autobiography of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Can you tell us a little bit about the movie?
The movie will portray the life of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from 1947 till 1952. The movie will focus on Bangabandhu's life in prison, his youth and various other details that were written on the book. It is my biggest achievement to be able to portray Bangabandhu in this movie.
What did it feel like to act in the film?
I needed to know more about Bangabandhu. People who read the book got to know more about him deeply. People who will get to watch the movie, will get to know more details about him. I am really fortunate that I am able to enact him on-screen. Not many artistes get to enjoy their dreams roles but I am glad that mine came true.
Do you believe that there is no end to an artiste's aspirations?
An artiste's aspirations will keep on extending like the never-ending skies. Unfulfilled roles seed the plans of passion for more diverse roles. I am really happy with all the projects that I have received, and sometimes I feel that I have got more than I expected.
However, I would be happy if the ongoing trend would change. Television serials and movies have moved away from what made them great, in these 10 years.
Who would you blame for the current scenario of showbiz?
I wouldn't blame anyone specifically for this condition. Every industry goes through some tough times, and then eventually everything gets fixed in one way or another. I think all of us are responsible for the current situation, in some way.
How did Dhaka Theater contribute to your acting career?
Dhaka Theater played an important role in my career, it acted as a grooming ground, where I got to learn the art of acting.
The poster of "Deshantor" has been released on social media. Can you tell us about the film?
The movie "Deshantor" is based on a novel written by renowned poet Nirmalendu Goon. The film revolves around the theme of patriotism and women empowerment. The government granted film is being directed by Ashutosh Sujon. My character embodies the idea of patriotism.
During the partition, many of the people fled to other places, but he decided to stay put in his own country.
