Oscars 2026: ‘One Battle After Another’ wins Best Picture
“One Battle After Another” took home the top honor at the 98th Academy Awards, following a ceremony where the film shared several major victories with “Sinners.”
After previously winning Best Director, Paul Thomas Anderson returned to the stage to accept the prestigious Best Picture Oscar. During his speech, the filmmaker acknowledged a mistake he had made earlier in the evening.
“I really blew it when I won Best Director and forgot to thank my cast,” Anderson admitted while standing alongside actors including Teyana Taylor, Chase Infiniti, and Leonardo DiCaprio.
He also used the moment to praise the other films nominated for Best Picture. Reflecting on the celebrated lineup of nominees from 1975, Anderson mentioned classics such as “Dog Day Afternoon”, “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”, “Jaws”, “Nashville”, and “Barry Lyndon”.
He noted that films of such caliber cannot truly be ranked against one another. “There isn’t really a single ‘best’ among them,” Anderson said, adding that which film stands out often depends on the mood of the day.
