Veteran Dhallywood actor Ahmed Sharif is reportedly considering contesting the upcoming election of the Bangladesh Film Artistes' Association.

Sharif, a well-known actor often cast in antagonist roles, is also a founding general secretary of the organisation. Speculation about his possible participation has been circulating within the film industry. However, he neither confirmed nor denied the matter, saying he would address it at a press conference.

Speaking to Prothom Alo, Sharif said, "I recently spoke about the election during an informal gathering. Whether I will contest or not, I cannot say at this moment. If there is any development, I will inform all media through a press conference. Everything will be clear in time."

Several local media outlets have reported that Sharif is interested in contesting the post of president in the upcoming election, though no panel has been finalised yet.

"I am speaking to everyone," he said. "I hope to be able to announce a final decision within the next few days."

Ahmed Sharif served as the founding general secretary of the Bangladesh Film Artistes' Association. He later held the post of general secretary twice more and was elected president on four occasions.

News of his possible return to the electoral race has sparked renewed discussion within the industry.
