Sabina Yasmin re-records ‘Ei Mon Tomake Dilam’ for ‘Domm’
Legendary singer Sabina Yasmin has re-recorded the iconic song “Ei Mon Tomake Dilam” for the upcoming film “Domm”, 44 years after she first sang it for the 1982 film “Manoshi”.
The song remains one of the most beloved tracks in the history of Bangladeshi cinema and continues to hold a special place in the hearts of listeners. The original lyrics were written by legendary lyricist Gazi Mazharul Anwar, while the music was composed by Anwar Pervez.
The recreated version keeps the same title, “Ei Mon Tomake Dilam”, but includes additional lyrics by Tonmoy Pervez. The music for the new version has been arranged by Arafat Mohsin Nidhi.
The song was recorded on March 11 at a studio in Dhaka. In the new version, Sabina Yasmin is joined by singer Momin Biswas.
Speaking during the recording session, Sabina Yasmin said she agreed to sing the song again because she liked the new composition. “I liked this new version of the song, which is why I decided to do it. I also enjoy working with younger artistes,” she said.
After the recording, she also praised the performances of actors Afran Nisho and Puja Chery, who star in the film.
Director Redoan Rony said the film carries strong emotions and tells the story of ordinary people. “We wanted a song that could touch every kind of emotion. ‘Ei Mon Tomake Dilam’ is no longer just a song. It carries the memories and feelings of a nation,” he said.
The filmmakers received permission to use the song from Gazi Mazharul Anwar’s children — Sarfaraz Anwar Upol and Dithi Anwar — who were also present during the recording.
Dithi Anwar said hearing the song again in Sabina Yasmin’s voice felt nostalgic. “Sabina Yasmin is a living legend. She sang most of my father’s songs. Hearing this song again in her voice felt like the old days,” she said.
Music director Arafat Mohsin Nidhi said working on such a timeless song was both challenging and exciting. “I grew up listening to her songs. When she said she liked the new version, that was the biggest achievement for me,” he said.
“Domm” is produced by SVF Alpha-i Entertainment and Chorki. The film is set to release during Eid-ul-Fitr under the tagline “Until the Last Breath”.
