Deceased Ctg SI tested Covid-19 positive

A sub-inspector of police in Chattogram who died with coronavirus-like symptoms on Saturday, tested positive for coronavirus.

The body of SI Ekramul Islam (48), of Sitakunda Model Police Station, was recovered from his house in Sitakunda upazila yesterday morning. He had been suffering from fever and other coronavirus-like symptoms from June 3 and was staying at his residence alone.

After his death, his samples were collected and came back positive for Covid-19 last night, said Mohiuddin Sohel, additional superintendent of police of district Special Branch.

"With the death of SI Ekramul, two police personnel of Chattogram district police unit have died from coronavirus infection so far," he added.

According to the district police, a total of 127 police personnel were infected with the virus till June 06.  Before Ekram, a constable of the Chattogram district police died of coronavirus on May 21 at Chattogram General Hospital.

Apart from that, three police personnel of Chattogram Metropolitan Police died of coronavirus so far, reports our Chattogram correspondent.
