New ‘Harry Potter’ teaser offers first look at HBO’s Hogwarts

HBO has unveiled a new teaser for its upcoming “Harry Potter” television series, offering another look at the young cast as they begin their first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

The series will adapt JK Rowling’s seven-book saga across seven seasons, with the first season based on “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”. The eight-episode season is scheduled to premiere on December 25, 2026.

The teaser introduces Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. It features the trio arriving at Hogwarts, the Sorting Ceremony and glimpses of the magical world they are about to enter.

The new footage also offers looks at Hogwarts staff members, including John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Professor Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid. Harry is also seen taking part in Quidditch and investigating the mystery surrounding the Philosopher's Stone.

The series is being developed as a more detailed adaptation of Rowling's novels, with each season planned around one of the seven books. HBO has already renewed the series for a second season, which will adapt “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets”.

The wider cast includes Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Elijah Oshin as Dean Thomas, Warwick Davis as Professor Filius Flitwick and Sirine Saba as Professor Pomona Sprout.

Francesca Gardiner serves as showrunner, while Mark Mylod, known for “Succession”, is directing multiple episodes. JK Rowling is also among the executive producers, alongside Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts and David Heyman. The series is being filmed at Warner Bros Studios Leavesden in the UK.

The television adaptation follows the hugely successful eight-film franchise, which starred Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson as Harry, Ron and Hermione.
