Jaya Ahsan's ‘Ardhangini’ sequel to release in West Bengal this July

Nearly a year after filming began, director Kaushik Ganguly has announced the release date of "Ajo Ardhangini", the sequel to the critically acclaimed Bengali film "Ardhangini".

The film is scheduled to hit theatres across West Bengal on July 10.

Released in 2023, "Ardhangini" starred Jaya Ahsan, Kaushik Sen and Churni Ganguly in the lead roles. The story revolves around Sumon's illness and the complex relationship that unfolds between his former wife Shubhra and current wife Meghna, played by Churni and Jaya respectively.

The film was widely praised by both audiences and critics, paving the way for the sequel.

According to Kaushik Ganguly, "Ajo Ardhangini" picks up the story roughly two years after the events of the first film. A wedding brings Sumon, Shubhra and Meghna together once again, forcing them to confront unresolved emotions and long-buried truths.

Alongside the returning trio, actor Indrasish Roy joins the cast in a significant role.

Speaking about the sequel, Ganguly revealed that several unanswered questions surrounding the central characters will be explored further. "Many untold aspects of the three characters' lives will come to light. Meghna's daughter Tikli is now older, but she is still unaware that Sumon is not her biological father. This truth becomes more prominent in the sequel," he said. "The central conflict revolves around the child, and it is through that crisis that the paths of the two wives cross once again."

Jaya Ahsan said she was delighted to return to a story that resonated deeply with audiences. “‘Ardhangini’ was a remarkably mature and emotionally layered story. Being part of its sequel is truly exciting," she said. "The first film was embraced wholeheartedly by audiences, and naturally there are high expectations surrounding the sequel. Our challenge is to give viewers something that goes beyond those expectations."

With the original film earning both critical acclaim and commercial success, "Ajo Ardhangini" is expected to be one of the most anticipated Bengali releases of the season.
