Theatre troupe Upstage staged its production “Raat Bhore Brishti” at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy for a limited four-show run. The play is adapted from Buddhadeva Bose’s 1967 novel, which faced a six-year legal ban after being declared obscene and anti-social.

Directed and adapted for the stage by Saif Sumon, the production featured a talented cast including Kazi Rokshana Ruma, Prashanta Halder, and Ranjan Dey Sathi. The actors explored the complex emotions and tensions of middle-class married life.

The story revolves around Monimala, Angshu, and their friend Joy, and examines the struggles, doubts, and trust issues that often exist beneath the surface of domestic life. The characters challenge traditional values of sexual morality and discover the importance of companionship and survival.

The play was performed on April 1 and 2 at 7:30 pm, with two shows on April 3 at 5 pm and 7:30 pm. Upstage aimed to continue the legacy of Bose’s novel by exploring love, loyalty, and social defiance in a modern context.
