More than three decades after its original release, Renaissance’s acclaimed song “Aj Je Shishu” has been reintroduced with a fresh musical arrangement, bringing together four of Bangladesh’s celebrated musicians.

The new version features the song’s original vocalist Pilu Khan, alongside Naquib Khan, Partha Barua and Bappa Mazumder. The track has been rearranged by Partha Barua and has been available on the Partha Barua & Souls YouTube channel since June 29.

Originally written by Shahid Mahmud Jangi and composed by Pilu Khan, “Aj Je Shishu” first appeared on Renaissance’s second album, “Tritiyo Bishwo”, released in 1993. The song was written before the album’s release and has remained one of the band’s most enduring works.

Speaking about the project, Naquib Khan said the remake was created not for commercial purposes but to promote awareness of children’s rights and broader social issues.

“Remakes of timeless songs are nothing new. However, this new version of ‘Aj Je Shishu’ was conceived to encourage social awareness and highlight the importance of protecting children’s rights,” he said.

He added that although the song was written more than 30 years ago, its message remains as relevant today as it was when it was first released.

Bappa Mazumder said the song continues to resonate across generations because of both its melody and lyrical depth.

“Some songs never lose their appeal, and ‘Aj Je Shishu’ is one of them. Its melody is captivating, while the lyrics leave a lasting emotional impact. I didn’t hesitate when I was invited to join Naquib Khan, Partha Barua and Pilu Khan for this new rendition,” he said.

The reimagined version preserves the essence of the original while introducing a contemporary sound through Partha Barua’s new arrangement, aiming to bring the song to a new generation of listeners.
