The sudden death of actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee has sparked outrage across Tollywood, with members of the film industry now taking to the streets to demand a proper investigation and justice.

On Saturday (April 4), members of the Artists’ Forum, accompanied by the actor’s wife Priyanka Sarkar, visited Regent Park Police Station. Among those present were prominent figures from the industry, including Prosenjit Chatterjee, Rituparna Sengupta, Chiranjeet Chakraborty, Ritwick Chakraborty and Jisshu Sengupta, among others.

From there, the group proceeded towards Technicians’ Studio to take part in a protest march under the banner “Justice for Rahul”.

Artistes have alleged that no clear explanation has yet been provided by the production company regarding the circumstances surrounding Rahul’s death. Expressing his frustration, Shantilal Mukherjee stated that further steps may be taken in consultation with legal experts if necessary.

Filmmaker Srijit Mukherji noted that multiple, conflicting accounts of the incident have emerged. “It is crucial that the actual sequence of events comes to light first—only then can justice be served,” he said.

Director Arindam Sil raised concerns over potential lapses in safety measures. He questioned whether the required permissions for the shoot had been obtained and why filming continued despite possible risks. “Had proper safety protocols been in place, this tragedy might have been avoided,” he remarked.

Actor Ritwick Chakraborty suggested there may be more to the incident than meets the eye, alleging attempts to deflect responsibility. “It is deeply condemnable if there is any effort to shift the blame onto Rahul,” he said, calling for a thorough and transparent investigation.

Echoing similar sentiments, Federation president Swaroop Biswas stressed that uncovering the truth must be the immediate priority. “Strict adherence to safety protocols could have prevented such an incident,” he added.

It may be recalled that on March 29, Rahul Arunoday Banerjee drowned while shooting for the television serial “Bhole Baba Par Karega” at Talsari beach in Odisha. Since then, his death has been surrounded by growing questions and speculation, prompting widespread calls for accountability within the industry.
