Timeless film posters displayed across BFDC on ‘Film Directors’ Day’
The Bangladesh Film Directors Association organised ‘Film Directors’ Day’ at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) today (September 16) marking the association’s 45th anniversary.
The event was attended by Information and Broadcasting Minister Andaleeve Rahman Partho as the chief guest. Also present were Directors Association president Shaheen Suman and general secretary Shahin Kabir Tutul.
As part of the event, posters of renowned directors, musicians, lyricists, composers and landmark films were displayed at the entrance of BFDC. Alongside posters of timeless films, the exhibition also featured posters of notable films released over the past decade.
Among the posters on display were those of “Alor Michil”, “Jibon Theke Neya”, “Epar Opar”, “Aguner Alo”, “Nawab Sirajuddaulah”, “Ekhoni Shomoy”, “Chandni”, and “Chetana”. Other posters included Shakib Khan-starrer “Priyotoma”, directed by Himel Ashraf, “Rajkumar” and “Chuye Dile Mon”, starring Arifin Shuvoo and directed by Shihab Shaheen.
Several prominent figures were also honoured for their contributions to the film industry. The recipients included director Kazi Hayat, Impress Telefilm and Channel i managing director Faridur Reza Sagar; Sohel Rana, Matin Rahman, Delwar Jahan Jhantu, Abu Musa Debu, Mohiuddin Shaker, lyricists Mohammad Rafiquzzaman and Abul Khair Bulbul, and Awkat Hossain. Legendary singer Sabina Yasmin also received an honour. Guests presented the awards to the recipients.
Speaking about the initiative, Directors Association president Shaheen Suman told The Daily Star, “Many members of the current generation have little connection with the directors of the past. The works of these accomplished filmmakers played an important role in taking our cinema forward. That is why the Directors Association decided to honour these eminent personalities.”
General secretary Shahin Kabir Tutul said, “Many of those who enriched our film industry may not have received national recognition, while others have. On behalf of the Directors Association, we have honoured these distinguished personalities. We hope to observe this day every year on August 3, as that was the release date of ‘Mukh O Mukhosh’”.
Addressing the event as chief guest, Information and Broadcasting Minister Andaleeve Rahman Partho said, “We did not just watch the films of the past; they stayed in our hearts. They left us with positive messages that remained with us. We will make a collective effort to ensure that films are made in the future that speak to our lives. We want films that can bring about positive change in society.”
Zahed Ur Rahman, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting, said, “Our Prime Minister had asked us for a comprehensive report on the development of the film industry. We will very soon implement the measures necessary for the development of cinema and BFDC. I also wanted to become a filmmaker myself, which is why I have a particular interest in this sector.”
State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury, along with filmmakers, producers and prominent cultural figures, was also present at the event.
The cultural segment featured a dance performance by actress Dighi, while singer Konal performed songs.
