Comedian Sunil Pal has claimed that he turned down an offer of Rs 25 lakh to appear on the second season of India’s Got Latent because he did not want to be part of content involving abusive language.

Pal, who has been one of the show’s strongest critics, made the remarks while speaking to paparazzi in Mumbai on Thursday. His comments come amid his ongoing public feud with comedian Samay Raina, whom he has repeatedly criticised over the show’s format and style of humour.

According to Pal, Raina approached him with the offer, promising Rs 25 lakh for his appearance. However, he said he refused because he did not want to use abusive language on the programme.

“He offered me Rs 25 lakh, but I told him, ‘I won’t use abusive language.’ He replied, ‘You don’t have to, but everyone else will anyway,’” Pal claimed while recalling their conversation.

During the interaction, photographers noted that actors Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, who appeared in the opening episode of the new season to promote “Alpha”, also did not use abusive language on the show.

Responding to the observation, Pal took a swipe at Bhatt with a sarcastic remark, saying, “Wherever there’s Alia, there are swear words too. Clap for that, otherwise Vijay Mallya will appear in your dreams.”

His comments have once again fuelled debate over the show’s brand of humour, which has often been criticised for its use of explicit language.

The second season of India’s Got Latent premiered on Netflix and YouTube on June 20. The opening episode featured Bhatt and Sharvari as guests to promote “Alpha”. The second episode is scheduled to be released on July 4, with the makers confirming another panel of comedians while keeping the guest line-up undisclosed.
