Sometimes I imagine Salman would return and surprise us: Moushumi

When Moushumi made her silver-screen debut in “Keyamat Theke Keyamat”, Salman Shah was by her side, beginning his own journey in cinema. Their pairing would go on to become one of the memorable chapters of 1990s Dhallywood. Three decades after Salman’s death, however, it is the memories behind the screen that Moushumi finds herself returning to.

On Salman Shah’s 30th death anniversary, Moushumi, who is currently in the United States, remembered her late co-star and their years together.

“I miss Salman all the time. I always remember him. We have so many memories together. It has been so many years since he left us. I pray for him. May Almighty Allah grant him Jannah,” she said.

Recalling their debut film, Moushumi said, “Salman was the hero of my first film. ‘Keyamat Theke Keyamat’ created records after its release, and audiences embraced both the film and our pairing. Even after all these years, people still talk about and praise it.”

Following the success of “Keyamat Theke Keyamat” (1993), Moushumi and Salman went on to star together in “Ontore Ontore” (1994) and “Denmohor” (1995).

Reflecting on the three decades since his death, she said, “Sometimes I think, what if Salman suddenly came back and surprised us? I know that is impossible, but I still wonder what it would be like if he could return.”

Moushumi believes Salman’s enduring popularity is a testament to the impact he made during his short career. “He created a massive fan following and a unique craze among audiences. He became hugely popular in a very short time. Even today, he has countless fans. That is his success and his achievement as an actor.”

She also spoke about Salman’s mother and her hope for justice. “I understand his mother’s pain. No one can feel that pain the way she does. I hope she receives justice, and that Salman’s fans do too. We all hope for that.”

“Salman loved his work and acting. He was very smart and had a tremendous passion for cinema.” 

Moushumi also highlighted Salman’s contribution to Bangladeshi cinema. “Despite his short career, Salman made a significant contribution to our cinema. His films continue to appeal to audiences, and new generations still watch them. That is his achievement.”

“I hope Salman is at peace wherever he is,” she said.
