‘Roid’ selected to represent Bangladesh at Oscars

Mejbaur Rahman Sumon’s film “Roid” has been selected as Bangladesh’s official entry for the 99th Academy Awards. The film will represent Bangladesh in the Best International Feature Film category.

The announcement was formally made at a press conference held at a five-star hotel in the capital today.

Five films submitted for Bangladesh’s selection for Oscars

A total of five films were submitted for consideration to represent Bangladesh at the Oscars this year. They were Nurul Alam Atique’s “Manusher Bagan”, Mejbaur Rahman Sumon’s “Roid”, Redoan Rony’s “Domm”, Mohammad Tauquir Islam’s “Delupi”, and Akash Haque’s “The University of Chankharpul”. Four films advanced to the preliminary selection, from which “Roid” was ultimately chosen as Bangladesh’s official entry.

“Roid” explores the timeless, primal nature of love through love and silence, reflecting on human evolution.

The film stars Mostafizur Noor Imran and Nazifa Tushi in the two central roles.
