‘Feu’ clinches ‘critics’ choice for Best Series

Chorki’s original historical thriller “Feu” clinched the Critics' Choice award for Best Film, Drama or Series at the "Blender's Choice-Thse Daily Star OTT & Digital Content Awards 2025" on Friday evening (October 9). The annual ceremony, hosted at the Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Center (BCFCC), honored the finest achievements in streaming media and digital content.

Driven by a dark narrative set in the Sundarbans, the victory highlighted the growing appetite for historically grounded digital storytelling in the country.

Directed by Sukorno Shahed Dhiman, the seven-episode series resurrects the harrowing memory of the 1979 Marichjhapi massacre in West Bengal through "Dumurjhapi"—a fictionalised island sanctuary torn apart by state violence and political deceit. 

Intersecting dual timelines in 1978–1979 and 2002, "Feu" follows a son’s search for explosive photos taken by his late father, a church reverend, as he unspools a web of foreign espionage, corrupt local power play, and military blockades in the shadowy Sundarbans.

"There are many stories in the Sundarbans—myths, legends, and local tales. But I wanted to focus on the region's politics," said Dhiman, reflecting on the project's ambition.

The critical triumph follows an arduous creative process. Rooted in real events and Dhiman's firsthand observations of Mongla, the script went through 17 drafts across five years of intensive research before being finalised in late 2022.

In addition to taking the night's top honor, "Feu" dominated the critics' board with major nominations across five key categories, including Best Director, Best Actor (Male), Best Supporting Actor (Male), and Best Editing.
