‘Bajere Baje Dhol Ar Dhak’ returns with a modern remake
One of the most iconic songs associated with Pohela Boishakh, “Bajere Baje Dhol Ar Dhak”, is set to return in a refreshed version this year, aiming to connect with a new generation of listeners.
Originally popularised around 18 years ago by singer Sonia, who rose to fame through “Closeup 1 Tomakei Khujchhe Bangladesh”, the song has remained a staple of Bengali New Year celebrations. Each year, it resurfaces across major events and public gatherings, continuing to resonate with audiences at home and abroad.
The song’s original composer and music director Shouquat Ali Imon has once again taken charge of the new arrangement. He said the updated version will feature a modern sound, fresh vocals and a visually contemporary music video while preserving the original essence.
“The popularity of this song needs no introduction. It is loved not only in Bangladesh but also by the Bengali diaspora worldwide,” Imon said. “We wanted to bring it closer to younger listeners by reimagining it with today’s sound, while keeping its core spirit intact.”
In addition to Imon, the new version features vocals by Jhilik, Luipa, Atiya Anisha and Kornia. The lyrics were written by Kabir Bakul.
The music video has already been filmed in Dhaka’s 300 Feet area and is directed by Chandan Roy Chowdhury.
The project is being released by leading music production company Gaanchill, which aims to reintroduce the festive anthem to contemporary audiences. The song is scheduled to premiere on April 9 on the label’s official YouTube channel.
