Woman’s body recovered from Ashulia's Bangshi River
Police today recovered a woman's body stuffed into a sack from the Bangshi River in Ashulia of Savar, five days after she went missing.
The victim was identified as Shahida Akhter Happy (31), a garment worker, reports our Savar correspondent quoting police.
"Babu Akand (28), boyfriend of the victim was arrested in connection with the murder, and based on his information the body was recovered from the river," said Sub-Inspector Iqbal Hossain of Ashulia Police Station.
Babu strangled her to death after she pressured him to get married, he said.
Shahida hailed from Hizla upazila of Barishal. Babu is from Kumirmara village under Mathbaria upazila of Pirojpur.
On the night of March 31, Babu asked for help from a CNG-run autorickshaw driver named Nazrul Islam to transport the body. Nazrul later denied the matter but he is the one who tactfully informed the matter to Rapid Action Battalion, said police.
Rab-4 on Friday arrested Babu and handed him over to Ashulia Police Station.
"The body was sent to Suhrawardy Hospital in Dhaka for an autopsy. Babu was sent to court and a seven-day remand will be sought," said SI Iqbal.
