Man sentenced to death for killing elder sister in Jashore

A Jashore court today sentenced a man to death in a case filed over killing his elder sister in 2019.

Additional District and Sessions Judge MA Hamid gave the verdict this afternoon in presence of the convict and also filed him Tk 50,000.

The convict Abdur Rahim (56) hails from Bijoyrampur village in Manirampur upazila.

"Abdur Rahim and his sister Nurjahan Begum (62) had been fighting for a long time over a land dispute. On the morning of February 19, 2019, Nurjahan went to the convict's house with her husband to talk about their land.

"At one stage of the conversation, Abdur Rahim hit Nurjahan on the head with a sharp weapon. She was seriously injured and was taken to Monirampur Upazila Health Complex where she later died while undergoing treatment," said Bimal Kumar Roy, assistant public prosecutor.

Later, Zillur Rahman, son of Nurjahan, filed a case against Abdur Rahim at Manirampur Police Station.
