Local newspaper editor sues two journalists under Digital Security Act
A local newspaper editor in Rajshahi sued two journalists of another local daily under the Digital Security Act yesterday.
Liaqat Ali, editor of Dainik Sonali Sangbad, filed the case with Rajshahi Cyber Tribunal alleging that the accused published a news that was "false, fabricated and defamatory" against him, Liaqat's lawyer Entajul Haque said.
Nur-e Islam Milon, acting editor of Dainik Upochar, and journalist of the newspaper Jami Rahman were made accused in the case for publishing the news on May 28, he told our Rajshahi staff correspondent.
Liaqat Ali said the news was based on an allegation of a local Awami League leader that was sent to different government offices, but it was published without giving him the opportunity to defend himself.
Meanwhile, Rajshahi Press Club criticised filing of the case under the DSA terming it an "alarming scenario for journalism".
