Grocery shop owner arrested for raping minor in Cox’s Bazar

Police arrested a grocery shop owner for raping a nine-year-old girl in Chakaria upazila of Cox's Bazar yesterday.

The accused rapist was identified as Bashir Ahmed, 55, a resident of the upazila.

The man took the girl inside his shop as she was on her way to a local madrasa around 8:00am yesterday. He then raped the girl there, said Shaker Mohammad Zubair, officer-in-charge of Chakaria Police Station, quoting the case statement.

As the victim disclosed the incident to her family, her father filed a case with the police station. Later, police arrested Bashir, he said.

The girl was sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for forensic test.

A Cox's Bazar court today sent the accused rapist to jail after police produced him before it.
