A police official and his employee were assaulted with hammers over a land dispute in Dhaka's Mohammadpur this afternoon.

Gazi Mizanur Rahman, 50, an inspector of Criminal Investigation Department in Narayanganj, was receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

He needed 26 stitches to his head after the assault, said Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost.

Golam Mostafa, 42, the CID inspector's caretaker, who was also assaulted, was also receiving treatment at the hospital.

Injured Mizanur alleged a group of eight criminals -- led by Shah Alam and Jamil -- from a local housing group attacked them around 1:00pm when Mostafa was working on the boundary wall of his five-katha land in Bosila Garden City.

"The criminals beat us with hammers over a land dispute," the CID officer said, lying on a bed at the hospital.

On information, his relatives rushed there and took them to hospital.

Abdul Latif, officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur Police Station, said they sent a police team to the spot after learning of the incident.
