Bank official in Tangail critically injured after abduction, assault

A bank official was left critically injured after he was abducted and assaulted with hammers in Mirzapur Bypass area on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway last night.

The perpetrators also stole his belongings and used his ATM card to withdraw Tk 50,000, police said.

The critically injured bank official is Jahangir Alam, senior officer of Prime Bank Mirzapur Branch, reports our Tangail correspondent quoting Rajiul Haque Deepu, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mirzapur Police Station.

He is now undergoing treatment at Mirzapur Kumudini Hospital and is in critical condition, the OC said quoting doctors at the hospital.

OC Deepto said Jahangir was forcefully taken on a microbus at 8:30pm from Mirzapur Bypass area when he was on his way home from office.

The muggers assaulted the bank official with hammers inside the vehicle and snatched all his belongings including cash, ATM cards and withdrew Tk 50,000, added the OC.

Later, he was left at the same place from where he was picked up. Locals found him in a state of unconsciousness, according to police.

The OC said efforts are underway to arrest the perpetrators.
