Nasir, Omi on 7-day remand in narcotics case
A Dhaka court today placed Uttara Club Limited's former president Nasir U Mahmud and his associate Tuhin Siddique Omi on a seven-day remand in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nivana Khair Jesi passed the order this afternoon, court sources said.
The magistrate also placed three associates of Nasir -- Lipi Akter, Sumi Akter, and Nazma Ameen Bristy -- on a three-day remand in the same case.
The five were produced before the court with a 10-day remand prayer in the case by Investigation Officer Udoy Kumar Mondol, also an inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of police, today.
The five persons, who were arrested yesterday after actress Pori Moni filed a case over attempted rape and murder, have also been sued under Narcotics Control Act.
Manik Kumar Sikder, a sub-inspector of detective's Gulshan zonal team, filed the case with Airport Police Station last night, said Iftekhairul Islam, additional deputy commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
A team of detectives yesterday carried out a raid at a house in Uttara's Sector-1 and made the arrests after Savar police sought help from Dhaka Metropolitan Police in this regard, Harun or Rashid, joint commissioner (North) of Detective Branch of DMP, said earlier.
Detectives filed the case under Narcotics Control Act after they recovered local and foreign liquor and 1,000 pieces of yaba from their possession during the drive, police officials said.
