20 lakh shrimp fries seized in Barguna while being smuggled: Coast guard

Bangladesh Coast Guard seized around 20 lakh shrimp fries from a fish depot in Barguna's Taltola upazila last evening.

Acting on a tip-off that a huge amount of shrimp fries will be smuggled from the depot near Fakirhat, a team of Coast Guard of Nidrasakina station under South Zone conducted a raid and seized the fries, according to a press release.

Lt Commander Amirul Haque, media officer of the Coast Guard headquarters, said that none was arrested as the smugglers fled the scene sensing their presence.

Later, the fries were released in Sakina canal in presence of Upazila Fisheries Officer Md Mahbubul Alam, he said.

Amirul further said that they will continue their regular drives in the areas under their jurisdiction to maintain law and order, ensure public safety as well as curb robbery, drug trafficking and illegal fishing.
