Detectives today claimed to have arrested two members of banned militant group Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) who used to commit robbery to raise funds.

They opted for robbery to amass money after being directed by imprisoned leaders through secret messaging apps from jails, said Shahadat Hossain Suma, an additional deputy commissioner (Tejgaon Division) of DMP's Detective Branch.

On information, a DB team arrested, Asifur Rahman (26), and Piash Sheikh (28), from Tejturi Bazar area on Monday evening along with a pistol, two bullets and Tk 35,000 in cash.

Both were accused in separate cases under Anti-terrorism Act in 2013 and were arrested earlier, Shahadat added.
The DB official said this group used to spend the money collected from robbing on fellow militants in prisons and those financially insolvent.

They established a food delivery shop named 'Halal and Fresh' and under the banner, they used to carry out militant activities and spread their ideology, the ADC said.

According to detectives, at least 14 persons were arrested in connection with at least six robbery incidents in Hatirjheel, Sher-E-Bangla Nagar and Mohammadpur between October last year and February this year.

Some of them gave confessional statement before magistrates and revealed militants' involvement in the robbery.
