2 cases filed against Mamunul, 700 others in Narayanganj

Journalist filed another case for assaulting, vandalising his residence

Two cases were filed against Hefajat-e-Islam Joint Secretary General Mamunul Haque and 700 others with Sonargaon police station today.

Of them, one was filed for obstructing policemen from discharging their duties, launching attacks and vandalising a resort in Narayanganj on April 3 and another was filed under anti-terrorism law.

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Yaur Rahman filed the first case with the police station naming 41 persons including Mamunul while Sub Inspector (SI) Arif Hawlader filed the other case with the police facility naming Mamunul and 41 others, our Narayanganj correspondent reports quoting Tobidur Rahman, inspector of Sonargaon police station.

Another 500 to 600 unknown people were made accused in the two cases, he said.

Meanwhile, another case was filed with the police station for physically assaulting and vandalising the residence of journalist Habibur Rahman (40), Sonargaon correspondent of a private television channel named Channel S, who covered Hefajat-e-Islam's Mamunul Haque's confinement at a resort in Narayanganj's Sonargaon upazila on April 3 by local Hefajat activists.

Habibur mentioned 17 names in the case and 70 to 80 others were unnamed.

Inspector Tobidur said they have arrested one Mostafa and produced him before a court and sought seven days remand.
