Yaba found in ambulance in Cox's Bazar: 2 arrested

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) yesterday seized 50,000 Yaba tablets from an ambulance and detained two people, including a nurse, from Maricha area on Cox's Bazar-Teknaf highway.

The detainees are Shikha Rani, 40, a nurse of MSF Holland, a non-governmental orgaisation, and Shafiul Alam, driver of the ambulance. Shafiul hails from Dhechua Palang village under Ramu upazila of the district and Shikha Rani is daughter of Porimol Roy of Gopinathpur village under Savar Police Station in Dhaka.

Lieutenant Colonel Md Rabiul Islam, Commander of BGB-17 Battalion in Cox's Bazaar, said BGB members, acting on a tip-off, put up a check post on the highway.

They stopped the Cox's Bazaar-bound ambulance at the check post at around 3:30am and arrested the two with the Yaba tablets.

The arrestees were handed over to Ramu Police Station. BGB also filed a case against them.

The market price of the seized Yaba tablets is around Tk 1.5 crore, the BGB commander said.
