Virtual functions of High Court to continue until further order

Ongoing virtual functions of the High Court will continue until further orders, according to a notification issued by the Supreme Court administration today.

The court can function using information and communication technology and will not require anyone's physical presence during the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain has constituted 13 separate High Court benches for holding hearing and disposing of cases virtually.

The judges assigned to conduct the HC benches are: Justice Farah Mahbub, Justice Borhan Uddin, Justice Obaidul Hassan, Justice M Enayetur Rahim, Justice Jahangir Hossain, Justice Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain, Justice JBM Hassan, Justice Md Nazmul Islam Talukder, Justice Md Ashraful Kamal, Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah, Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam, Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman, according to the notification.

Earlier on June 10, the SC administration in a separate notification said the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court will conduct judicial functions virtually till June 30.

The chief justice assigned Justice Md Nuruzzaman for this purpose. He will hold virtual hearing and dispose of cases on June 16, 23 and 30, according to the SC notification.

Judicial functions of more than 300 subordinate courts across the country have been taking place digitally since May 11 after a gap of 46 days to deal with urgent cases.

More than 33,000 people accused in criminal cases have secured bail in 20 working days till June 11.            

Court activities across the country including those of Appellate and High Court divisions of Supreme Court were shut since March 26 to control the spread of coronavirus.               

On May 10, the chief justice issued few directives on dealing with urgent cases by using information and communication technology during the ongoing closure.
