Two girls commit 'suicide'

Two girls allegedly committed suicide in Monirampur upazila and Jessore district town on yesterday and the day before.

In Monirampur upazila, a college girl killed herself by setting fire to her body after pouring petrol at Nadra village in the upazila early yesterday, said family members.

The deceased is Kulsum Khatun Champa, 18, daughter of Abdul Kashem, said Monirampur police.

In Jessore town, a 17-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in Jhumjhumpur Mandartola area of the town on Sunday.

The dead is Sweety Khatun, daughter of Raj Ali of Khorinchi village in Monirampur upazila. Sweety used to live with her sister and brother-in-law in the area.

The deceased's mother said Sweety became pregnant after living together with her cousin Babu for two months.

Babu left Dhaka for Malaysia on Sunday night and refused to marry Sweety. Over the issue, Sweety committed suicide around 12:00pm, she said.
