Truck runs over 6-yr old in Narayanganj

A six-year old boy died today after he was run over by a truck in Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj.

The incident took place around 5:30pm at Udbhabganj-Mograpara Intersection area in front of Khandaker Plaza in the upazila when the boy got off a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and the truck hit him from behind, leaving him dead on the spot, Tabid Rahman, inspector (investigation) of Sonargaon Police Station, said quoting witnesses.

The victim was identified as Janatullah (6) of Pirojpur area in the upazila. He was with his grandparents when the incident took place, the inspector said.

Locals immediately stopped the truck and beat up the driver before handing him over to police, Inspector Tabid said, adding that on information police went to the spot, recovered the body and seized the truck.

The body has been kept at the police station while the victim's family is being contacted. The child's grandparents could not be found when police went to the spot, he added.

According to locals, they fell sick after witnessing the tragic fate of their grandson and were taken to hospital immediately.
